Andy Beck is a researcher and engineer specializing in neuro-symbolic AI, with over sixteen years of experience in logic, ontologies, and knowledge representation and reasoning.
Most recently, Andy served as Senior Research Scientist at Elemental Cognition, where he led the technical development of Cogent—a domain modeling language for constraint reasoning based on structured English. He also worked on formal semantics for natural language to support deep machine reading and general language understanding.
Previously, as an ontologist at Cycorp, he developed sophisticated domain models across fields ranging from microbiology and education to petroleum production.
Andy holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of California, San Diego, where his research focused on formal semantics and a systematic approach to the formalization of real-world domain knowledge.
