Platforms Go Global

June 15, 2015 | By Monica Debban

Platfrom elementsThe international business landscape is changing. A new breed of business—platform companies that match and facilitate interaction between the makers of goods and services with buyers —are rapidly expanding their global reach. In the past decade, a growing number have emerged as global enterprises that rival traditional businesses in the number of countries in which they operate. There are also vibrant platforms emerging in Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and Africa.

Dr. Peter Evans, Vice President of The Center for Global Enterprise, led a one-hour discussion on platform companies for members of the Global Scholars Program. His colloquium shed light on how to understand these new business models, and the opportunities and challenges that their organizational structures and operational processes pose to both platform companies and traditional enterprises.

The Global Scholars Program (GSP) is a free and open learning community of students, faculty, and professionals focused on the management practices, leadership styles, and innovations that will shape the future of global business. There are currently 71 universities across 57 different countries in the Global Scholars Program.
