CGE Presents Engaged Investor Research at Columbia University

December 15, 2017 | By Monica Debban

The Center for Global Enterprise presented the research which serves as the foundation for the Applied Corporate Governance Institute (ACGI) at the Richard Paul Richman Center for Business, Law, and Public Policy at Columbia University. On December 4th, Shane Goodwin, Sam Palmisano, Jeffery Gordon, Chris Caine, and Jesse Greene presented the findings of a joint research project between the Richman Center and the CGE. The research, conducted over the last and half year, is entitled Management Practices in an Age of Engaged Investors.

The study is built around a unique combination of complex predictive analytics and qualitative interviews with CEOs, directors, institutional activists, activist investors, and other stakeholders in the changing investment environment of publically traded enterprises.

The predictive analytics relies on a database of over 50,000 shareholder engagements over the course of 30 years. This historical database served as the basis for much of the research and contextualized the practical insights of industry leaders who have dealt with engaged investors.

The attendees asked pointed questions about the research with a focus on the details of the comparative analytics and the importance of hot topic issues like environmental policy. There were also inquiries into the future of the research and the practical application of the findings going forward.
