Why We Created AWEC
African women create businesses at a faster rate than anywhere else in the world. They have the passion, drive, and fortitude, but told us that they were stymied by educational, economic and societal gaps that stood in the way of their success.
AWEC was created at the Center for Global Enterprise (CGE) to bridge this gap and enable more equal access to sustained, high-quality leadership and business management learning opportunities, mentorship, and a pan-African peer network.
We pioneered an innovative blended learning model that relies on technology and a committed program management team to create an inclusive, high-touch, and collaborative learning community.
AWEC empowers African women entrepreneurs with the knowledge and network needed to build resilient and scalable businesses.
Each year, AWEC welcomes 200 new entrepreneurs into our 12-month program. We challenge them to learn together, teach each other, create community, and develop their businesses. For some, this is the beginning of their entrepreneurial journey and for others, an opportunity to sharpen their businesses and prepare for growth.
