CGE Launches China Platform Survey

May 14, 2015 | By Monica Debban

Over the past decade, China has spawned a large number of highly successful platform companies. Tencent (social media), Alibaba (e-commerce), Baidu (search) have grown to serve hundreds of millions of users. In the process, China has become one of the most competitive and innovative countries for platform business models. A growing number of these companies are building international connections. For example China’s second largest e-commerce platform, JD.com has announced a new platform called JD Worldwide. This new cross-border e-commerce platform, JD Worldwide, will provide Chinese consumers with greater access to imported products.

In order to better understand the rise of Chinese platform companies, the Center for Global Enterprise is pleased to partner with Professor Weiru Chen and Cho-Hsuan “Joseph” Yu. They are the authors of the best-selling book Ping Tai Zhan Lue, which in English translates to Platform Strategy: Business Model Revolution. Together, Professor Chen and Mr. Yu will compile a survey of leading Chinese platform companies. Their deep understanding of dynamics shaping China’s platform landscape will make an important contribution to CGE’s global survey of platform companies. The China platform survey will contribute to building a database and insights into a wide range of sectors where digital platforms operate including social media, e-commerce, education, finance/payments, real estate, travel, transportation, and human resources.
